A dam is a construction that involves the creation of a large internal water base. This construction forms a barrier across flowing water that obstructs, directs or slows flow, often resulting in water reservoirs, lakes or water enclosures. Most dams have sections known as overflows or thickets that are intended to allow water to pass through them either continuously or intermittently.
