Restructuring LAUT

The Lembaga Sumber Air Terengganu (hereinafter known as LAUT) was established on 1 December 2020 in accordance with Section 3 of the Enakmen Sumber Air (Terengganu) 2020 (ESAT 2020). With the establishment of LAUT, the State government has upgraded JBAT to LAUT to carry out both water supply and resource functions. However, after examining the functions of these two organizations and the constraints that exist today, Jabatan Bekalan Air Terengganu (JBAT) is still relevant and needs to retain some of its functions.

After re-examining the governance of water supply and resources, in May 2021 the State Government decided to restructure by maintaining JBAT as a department under the State Government. JBAT functions to provide water supply facilities to meet the needs of the people through the planning, development, management and maintenance of water supply infrastructure in accordance with the Water Supply (Terengganu) Enactment 1998.

Meanwhile, LAUT as a semi-governmental agency responsible for ensuring the sustainable management of water resources and related matters in the State of Terengganu under the Enakmen Sumber Air (Terengganu) 2020 gazetted on 1 December 2020.
